On-Grid vs Off-Grid vs Hybrid: Which Solar System Is Right for You?

A practical, no-jargon comparison of the three main residential solar architectures — and why most Indian homes pick hybrid in 2026.

On-grid: the most affordable

An on-grid system feeds excess solar to the DISCOM grid via net metering. There is no battery — so if the grid goes down, your solar stops. Best for areas with reliable grid power. Lowest upfront cost and the only system eligible for net metering payouts.

Off-grid: complete independence

An off-grid system uses a battery bank and is fully disconnected from the grid. Great for remote sites, farmhouses or zero-outage zones. Battery costs add 40–60% to the install.

Hybrid: best of both

Hybrid systems combine solar + battery + grid. During the day solar powers the home and tops up the battery; at night the battery takes over; in long outages the grid is a backup. This is now the most popular architecture in Indian Tier-2 cities.

Quick decision matrix

Reliable grid + budget-conscious → on-grid. Frequent or long outages + reliability matters → hybrid. Remote with no grid at all → off-grid. We will design exactly what your roof, bill and lifestyle need.
